Data Privacy Policy

Autism Spectrum Teacher (“Autism Spectrum Teacher” or “Steph” or “I” or “Me”)

This Data Privacy Notice has been issued to make Autism Spectrum Teacher compliant with the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

What data is collected?

Autism Spectrum Teacher mail list

The Autism Spectrum Teacher mail list collects the names and email addresses (Data) of individuals (Data Subjects).

Contact forms

When a contact form is filled out, Autism Spectrum Teacher collects the names and email addresses of Data Subjects. In some instances the Data Subject might provide additional (optional) information to say whether, for example, they are a teacher or a parent.

Blog post comments

When Data Subjects leave a comment on the Autism Spectrum Teacher website (the Website), it collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the Data Subject’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymised string created from the Data Subject’s address may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if they are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here. After approval of the comment, the Data Subject’s profile picture is visible to the public in the context of the comment.

Cookies

If a Data Subject leaves a comment on the Website, the Data Subject may opt-in to saving their name, email address and website in cookies. This is for their convenience so that they do not have to fill in their details again when they leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on the Website may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the Data Subject has visited the other website.

These other websites may collect data about the Data Subject, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor interaction with that embedded content, including tracing their interaction with the embedded content if they have an account and are logged in to that website.

Why is the data collected?

Data Subjects can opt in to be added to Autism Spectrum Teacher’s mail list. This is in order to receive access to new posts, articles and downloads of teaching resources (together ” Information“) from time to time. This is a free of charge service via email.

Also, Data Subjects contact Autism Spectrum Teacher periodically to ask Steph to contact them about a particular issue of interest to them.

How is the Data collected and what happens to it?

By completing one of the contact forms on the Autism Spectrum Teacher website and submitting this online.

Requests to be added to the mail list are processed through ConvertKit. When the Data Subject submits their request, they receive an auto reply from ConvertKit which asks them to click a button to confirm that they have indeed submitted a request and wish to be added to the Autism Spectrum Teacher mail list.

Autism Spectrum Teacher uses ConvertKit to manage (process) the email list and when Autism Spectrum Teacher wishes to send Information to Data Subjects, this is done using ConvertKit as the distributor.

ConvertKit acts as Data Processor and for details about their Privacy Policy please look here.

I can view the list of Autism Spectrum Teacher’s current subscribers and their Data through my secure ConvertKit member’s account and I can see when a Data Subject has “unsubscribed”.

Where individuals contact me via an online contact form or via email at [email protected] requesting me to contact them, I retain the personal Data they provide on my email account and this is kept secure.

Autism Spectrum Teacher is fair and reasonable and processes data on a Lawful Basis

Autism Spectrum Teacher only requires Data that is absolutely necessary to fulfil the purpose it serves. Individuals ask to be added to the Autism Spectrum Teacher mail list in order to receive the Information or for Steph to contact them about a matter which is of particular interest to them. Obviously, Autism Spectrum Teacher needs a certain amount of contact and other details to be able to do this. It is therefore in the Legitimate Interests of the Data Subjects (and of Autism Spectrum Teacher) for this Data to be processed. Data Subjects opt in to be added to the mail list and this represents Consent which they can withdraw at anytime by unsubscribing.

Data Subjects who submit a request for Steph to contact them about a particular matter, are not added automatically to the mail list.

How long is Data retained for?

Autism Spectrum Teacher only retains Data for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purpose it was provided for. It will then be destroyed.

Subscribers to the mail list can unsubscribe at any time (by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link in any email received from Autism Spectrum Teacher’s ConvertKit emails) and their Data will be removed. They will therefore no longer receive any Information via email. Of course, they can still visit the Website and get in touch with Steph if they would like to be contacted about a specific issue.

If you leave a comment on a blog post, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically, instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Does Autism Spectrum Teacher share Data with others?

Autism Spectrum Teacher does not sell, share or otherwise transfer under our control to other parties. However, I will transfer Data if I am required to do so by a valid Order applicable under UK law.

What are the rights of Data Subjects in accordance with GDPR?
